Last night, Bill made the last DVD copy of the movie, and that means today we could play! I really wanted to get away and have a little solitude. Bill and I chose to hike the Garnet Hill Loop Trail, except once we got to the trailhead, there was a notice posted informing us part of the loop trail was closed. So, we hiked out a ways, had lunch, and then hiked back. It was just what the doctor ordered!
We hiked through sage brush and took in beautiful views in all directions.
We followed along the Yellowstone River...well, sort of. We were up on a ridge and the river was far below. The smoky view is due to the wildfires in the area.
We came across an elk antler...a six-pointer.We then found a big rock to lean against in a wooded area to enjoy our lunch. After enjoying the solitude and watching a couple of hawks fly overhead, we headed back out.
We never tire of the beautiful scenery. As we came over a ridge, this is what greeted us....a herd of bison, directly on the trail.
Of course, we did the wise thing and went around the bison, giving them plenty of room. However, this guy kept his eyes on us, and every now and then he would let out a loud bellow. It's like he was telling us he was in charge, and we best keep moving...and we did.
After our nice hike, we came home and prepped for dinner. We bought a beautiful rack of ribs yesterday in Cody. After putting a dry rub on them, we put them in the oven to render. Soon, Bill will be putting them on the grill. Can you say yummy??
One last thing...Bill and I have finally decided to visit Yellowstone in the winter. We have reservations for mid-February. Are we excited??? You bet!
